Our Journey and Founding

In 2013, CODI was established by Given Shingange, driven by a vision to address the disparities that prevent South Africa’s youth from thriving. Our work begins at the heart of our communities, recognizing that true empowerment comes through connecting the dots between education, economic opportunity, and sustainable development.

Why Work with CODI?

South Africa faces a “triple threat”—social inequality, economic disparity, and environmental challenges. CODI tackles these issues by developing human capacity at every level, ensuring that the youth we serve have the resilience, agency, and support they need to succeed. Our work is guided by the principle that sustainable change comes from within. Through innovative learning methods, we promote a self-reliant and empowered mindset that enables communities to develop solutions relevant to their unique circumstances.

Through Participatory Action Research, CODI collaborates with communities to create empowerment programs that build resilience, strengthen skills, and support personal growth. Our efforts align with South Africa’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on creating lasting impacts in education, employment, and environmental stewardship.
